Industrial-grade sodium alginate has a purity of ≥98%, appearing as white to pale yellow fibrous or granular powder with no odor. It decomposes above 200℃ with no clear boiling point. Vapor pressure is <0.001mmHg at 25℃, bulk density 0.5–0.7 g/cm³ at 20℃. It dissolves in water to form a viscous colloidal solution, and is insoluble in ethanol, ether and most organic solvents. Stable under neutral and alkaline conditions; incompatible with strong acids, heavy metal ions and oxidizing agents.
