Kojic acid, a tyrosinase inhibitor, is produced by several fungi species, including Aspergillus oryzae. Product Application of Kojic acid#501-30-4
Kojic acid is a skin-lightening agent that functions through antioxidant activity. As a tyrosinase inhibitor, it is less potent than licorice extract. When blended with allantoin and other suitable ingredients in sunscreens, the mixture can suppress UV-induced erythema and speed up wound healing. It may cause skin sensitization and irritation in some users.
