A colorless to pale yellow liquid with a strong garlic-like odor, it is one of the main components of sulfur-containing compounds in plants of the Liliaceae family such as garlic and onion. Containing sulfide ether bonds (-S-S-), it has reducing properties, is prone to oxidation in the air, and may decompose to produce sulfides at high temperatures.
