Description

Butyl acetate is a transparent, combustible ester formed from acetic acid, existing in normal, secondary, and tertiary isomers. These isomers emit a sweet, fruity scent similar to bananas. They can be found naturally in apples and various other fruits, as well as in common foods including cheese, coffee, beer, roasted nuts, and vinegar. Commercially, butyl acetate is produced by esterifying the corresponding alcohol with acetic acid or acetic anhydride. N-butyl acetate serves widely as a solvent for nitrocellulose lacquers, printing inks, and adhesives. It is also used in making synthetic leather, photographic film, safety glass, and plastic materials. Its isomers are used as flavor additives, nail care ingredients, and larvicides. The tertiary isomer has been applied as a gasoline additive. It is widely used to create artificial fruit flavors in candies, ice cream, cheese products, and baked goods.Butyl acetate
