Description

Paraxylene is a key organic chemical feedstock, primarily used to manufacture terephthalic acid (PTA), dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which are further processed into polyester materials. It also serves as a solvent and raw material for pharmaceuticals, fragrances, inks, and related industries. Today, China ranks as the world’s top producer and consumer of paraxylene. Historically, paraxylene was recovered from petroleum aromatics produced by naphtha catalytic reforming. With advances in petrochemical and coking industries, aromatics conversion has become the most efficient route for paraxylene production. Industrially, paraxylene is typically synthesized from toluene and C9 aromatics using technologies such as toluene disproportionation, transalkylation, xylene isomerization, toluene-methanol alkylation, and adsorption separation.p-Xylene
