Basic Violet 14 belongs to aniline dyes or coal-tar dyes, which feature diverse types and broad application. A notable drawback is its tendency to fade under sunlight; aniline blue, brilliant green, and methyl green fade more readily. By controlling pH during preparation and avoiding direct light exposure, its color can remain stable for years. Basic fuchsin is an alkaline dye that appears as a dark red powder or crystal. It dissolves in water (1% solubility) and ethanol (8% solubility). It is extensively applied in biological preparations for staining collagen fibers, elastic fibers, fuchsinophilic granules, and central nervous tissue nuclei. It stains lignified cell walls of vascular plants and serves as a general stain for protozoans and charophytes. In bacteriological preparations, it is frequently used to identify Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It acts as a histochemical reagent in the Feulgen reaction and has been employed for DNA detection.

Product Application of Basic Violet 14 CAS 632-99-5
1. Used in preparing Schiff’s reagent to detect aldehydes, and for extraction photometric analysis of selected anions and metal ions.
2. Applied in photometric detection of bromine, nitrite, and sulfur dioxide.
3. Serves as a maximum current suppressor in polarographic analysis.
4. Used for dyeing cotton, acrylic fibers, silk, leather, etc., with excellent fastness on acrylics. Also used for coloring paper, feathers, straw, bamboo, and wood, as well as for manufacturing color lakes.
5. Acts as a nuclear stain in biochemical analysis—one of the most intense nuclear stains available. It stains mucin, elastic tissues, and fuchsinophilic granules, and labels nuclei in the central nervous system. In bacteriology, it identifies tubercle bacilli. In analytical chemistry, it is used in Schiff’s reagent for aldehyde testing and as a redox indicator in bromate titrations.
