Description

n-Butyl alcohol is a colorless flammable liquid with a strong alcoholic odor. It is a highly refractive liquid and burns with a brightly luminous flame. It cannot be used together with strong acids, strong oxidants, aluminum, acyl chlorides, acid anhydrides, copper and copper alloys. n-Butyl alcohol is widely used in many industries. For example, it is used as a solvent in the production of paints, varnishes, synthetic resins, gums, pharmaceuticals, vegetable oils, dyes and alkaloids. 1-Butanol is used in the production of butyl acetate, butyl glycol ether, and plasticizers such as dibutyl phthalate. It serves as a solvent in the coating industry, for extracting oils, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic nail products, and as an ingredient in fragrances and flavors. 1-Butanol is found in fusel oil and is a byproduct of the fermentation of alcoholic beverages like beer and wine. It also exists in beef fat, chicken soup and unfiltered cigarette smoke.
