1-Methylimidazole acts as an aprotic solvent. It is an imidazole derivative widely used in manufacturing medicines, pesticides, ion exchange resins, dye intermediates, textile auxiliaries, photographic chemicals, and corrosion inhibitors. It is also employed as a catalyst for polyurethane production and a curing agent for epoxy resins. For instance, adding 1-methylimidazole to an aqueous diethylenetriamine (DETA) solution enables high CO2 loading via phase separation of the absorbent during CO2 capture.
