Description

Benzoyl peroxide CAS#94-36-0
Benzoyl peroxide is an odorless white or colorless crystalline powder with a faint benzaldehyde scent, produced by reacting benzoyl chloride with cooled sodium peroxide solution. It is used in specific cheeses at a milk ratio of 0.0002%. It also serves as a flour bleaching agent that decomposes gradually to achieve full whitening effects, yielding lighter flour and bread. The main decomposition product of benzoyl peroxide in water is benzoic acid, with trace amounts of phenyl benzoate, phenol, and hydroxybenzoic acids also detected. Identical byproducts form when carbon‑14 labeled benzoyl peroxide reacts with whey.

Workers in electronics, plastics (epoxy resins and catalysts), ceramics, dentistry, laboratories, and baking may encounter benzoyl peroxide. It has also caused contact dermatitis in sacristans due to its presence in candles, while some positive test results lack clear occupational links.Benzoyl peroxide

Product Application of Benzoyl peroxide CAS#94-36-0
Benzoyl peroxide is a commonly used organic peroxide compound. It acts as a free‑radical source in numerous organic synthesis processes and initiates polymerization of styrene, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, and acrylic monomers. It is used to cure thermoset polyester resins and silicone rubbers. In medical applications, it treats acne. It also functions as a bleaching agent for vegetable oils, cheeses, flour, and fats.
