2-Butoxyethanol serves as a key chemical intermediate in the synthesis of 4-butoxyethoxy-N-octadecyl-1,8-naphthalimide, a novel fluorescent probe applied in protein detection. It is also employed in the preparation of 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde derivatives, which function as tyrosinase inhibitors. Thanks to its strong coupling capacity and outstanding resin-dissolving ability, it is widely applied as a coupling solvent. Additionally, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether works as an effective solvent for nitrocellulose, various resins, oils, and greases, and is used in dry cleaning processes.
